Simon Fraser University is proud to host the 8th Annual Meeting of the International Society for the Study of Self-Injury (ISSS) in beautiful Vancouver, B.C., Canada (June 29-30, 2013; pre-convention workshop: June 28). The conference will showcase innovative research on non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI), including translational research on the functions and causes of NSSI, as well as research on the prevention and treatment of NSSI. There will be a special emphasis on the treatment of NSSI, the development, evaluation, and refinement of innovative interventions, and creative ways to deliver treatment, as well as a pre-conference workshop (including training in DBT) on Friday, June 28th.
This year, we are fortunate to have two invited addresses from internationally recognized leaders in the field:
  • Dr. Kim L. Gratz (University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, M.S.) will present research on an acceptance-based emotion regulation group treatment for NSSI.
  • Dr. Christian Schmahl (Central Institute for Mental Health, Mannheim, Germany) will present research on the psychological and neural mechanisms of NSSI in borderline personality disorder.
