Tom Insel, MD and Kathryn Power, M.ED.. An all-day Federal Partners' Meeting at the headquarters of the Substance and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) co-sponsored by SAMHSA, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and the National Education Alliance for Borderline Personality Disorder (NEABPD) was convened. Also in attendance at the meeting were administration from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) as well as clinicians and program managers from other branches of government to educate and inform the different agencies about BPD.

The meeting, called the “Federal Partners Meeting on BPD,”  had presentations  by :  John Gunderson, MD, McLean Hospital,  John Oldham, MD, President of APA, Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., designer of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Blaise Aguirre, MD, McLean Hospital, BAguirre BPD in Adolescence SAMHSA Nov 2100 Ken Duckworth, MD, Medical Director , Jim Breiling, Ph.D. from NIMH as well as a family member and a recovered consumer.

Administrator Pamela Hyde spoke to the group  during the working lunch. 

The remainder of the day  focused on The Collaboration Discussion: led by Tom Insel, MD, Director of NMIH and Kathryn Power, M.Ed., Director, SAMHSA Center for Mental Health Services, presiding. There was active discussion from the audience with recommendations and ideas suggested for future action.  A transcription of the day will be made available on this web site along with the slides of the presentations.   A list of action items will be drawn up after a review of the minutes from the meeting.   Stay tuned……
