Why learn about borderline personality disorder?

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is one of the most prevalent and devastating mental illnesses, yet it is one of the most maligned and misunderstood. BPD is decades behind in research, treatment options and family education compared to other major mental illnesses. BPD is a leading cause of suicide. Odds are, you know or will know someone who has the symptoms of BPD, but do not recognize that it is a mental illness that can be treated.
