The Gunderson Personality Disorders Institute (Gunderson PDI) at McLean Hospital was originally founded as the Borderline Personality Disorder Training Institute in 2013 to proliferate evidence-based treatments for borderline personality disorder (BPD) and related comorbidities. By providing education to clinicians, it aims to increase access to and quality of care for patients with BPD and other severe personality disorders. Courses offered include Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT) with the Anna Freud Centre for Children and Families, Transference Focused Psychotherapy (TFP) with the Personality Disorders Institute, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), DBT for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (DBT-PTSD), and General Psychiatric Management (GPM). The Gunderson PDI is not for profit and is made possible by the donation of time and expertise from course faculty and Gunderson PDI leadership, as well as charitable gifts to McLean Hospital.
